Softened music plays in the background,
The street lights flickers on and off,
No other soul in sight
Just the car and me.

No starlight here tonight,
just purple smog covering the sky,
Withering the poppies;
killing off the trees.

In the distance sirens sing,
People scream, and people cry
wounds are dealt and pain is felt,
silence falls and tears are spelt.

In the quiet part of town,
soft music fills the air,
the streets lights flicker on
and finally go off
Bathing the world in darkness.

I sigh,
just another city night.

Aw, the city sounds and lights at night, in my opinion, is more soothing than a sweet country town where everybody there are hypocritical busy-bodies. My hometown boasts population 700, so I think I speak from some knowledge. I no longer live there. Just my take on this well-written poetry.

I've lived in cities and small towns all over Canada and I would take a small town over a city...I just find myself more comfortable in a small town (small meaning seven throusand or so)This poem is beautifully written and I thourghly enjoyed the vision it gave me...

I'm the opposite of Jerry on this one. I live way out in the country and at night the beautiful silence is so peaceful, especially under a clear starlit sky.

I've lived for a time in a huge city but can't stand the dog eat dog world.
Nice writing, you've captured the reality of the city, and the preceeding is just my opinion.
