Broken Promise

They say it will happen
I watch dark clouds forming
Smell ozone in the air
The wind is picking up

My daughter calls “it’s here”
“it’s moving east to you”
“get ready, you’ll love it”
“it’s just what you wished for”

Excitement flows through me
The rain begins to fall
A flash lights up the sky
Counting one one thousand…

My heart begins to pound
Come closer I beseech
I strain to see and hear
Please let it come to me

A tear rolls down my cheek
Storm’s tracing the river
Weather people hear me
It’s a broken promise

When I don't "get" something I am not bashful in saying so. I don't "get" this.

Are you wishing for a storm, and it didn't come your way? And if you are wishing for a storm, why?

Or is this just poking fun at the "weather people," and all their broken promises?

*grin* sorry to confuse you...I am wishing for a thunder and lightning storm...they are always coming but they seem to follow the river bottom and just miss us...I get very disappointed when the weather people say we will get one and we miss out...I guess that is pretty strange...

Like Jerry I didn't understand at first.

I thought you were waiting for the guy that was delivering some moonshine to
you guys out west there......smile...

You crazy cowgirls and cowboys just like you to want a lightning bolt in the front yard.

I hope it doesn't sizzle your petticoats when you finally get your wish.

JUs kiddin Karen, it's a lovely poem.

I love the approaching storm, when you can stand in an open field (not sensible mind you)and feel the hairs on the back of your neck rise from the static in the air.

Perhaps you should chase the storm

I was a bit confused at first too.  But after you walked us through it I enjoyed your poem.   We get that a lot here as well.  Always waiting, but doesn't happen.  Thanks for sharing.

I got it right off, probably because I love me a good rip-roarer or two myself (if I'm safe inside, that is!)

The title clues the reader in. Lovely write, I truly enjoyed!

Storms can be rather invigorating and exciting to watch as long as they are not too long or distructive.

Thank you all for reading this poem and commenting...there is just something about storms that excites me...the power in them that man cannot control is amazing...I get lost in a different world during a storm...

Delightful poem.
I like the storms too--except when they knock down trees on things I own. Yes, those things are insured, but it's a still a nuisance.
