England

A dragonfly upon the wing
And high above a skylark sings
And Cotswold stone and chalky plains
Or limestone cliffs where flowers cling
Granite that towers above the lakes
The shearing of the greenest slate
Warblers walking on the sand
Where we once walked, just hand in hand
Cock Robin red, his breast puffed out
The salmon and the rainbow trout
An English rose, so scarlet red
The poppy too, the distant dead
A rare blue sky, and corn below
The mountain stream so pure to flow
The church bells now to peel out loud
For this the England, of which I'm proud

Well done poetry about your home and your devotion to it. It hits home with me because here in America we have decided over the last few decades that America the Beautiful has become something that even our president feels the need to apologize for.

Thanks Jerry
always seems difficult to have pride in your homeland this day and age.
It is the beauty of the country that I love, the natural things around.

Fine imagery ... effective 'write' !

[made me think of my beloved Scotland ... the
Caledonians ... the western & northern
  highlands, Glencoe, etc.]

Here amid the "Runaway American Dream" ...
it is nice to know that at least there still are
places in the world for which folks can feel a
pride of connection.

This poem weaves the imagery that I picture in my mind England to be...Beautifully written...It is so good to hear that you are proud of your country...I was brought up in the Canadian military (also married into it) and have a great deal of pride for my country...

That's beautiful!
You're a younger version of Longfellow.

Lovely flow and images.
