She looked like Donna Reed
or June Cleaver,
beautiful
in her 1950's dress,
high heels and pretty apron.
Perfect make-up,
every hair in place,
impecable manners,
smiling face.
A post war creation...
The perfect housewife.
But behind the frilly curtains
of her immaculate home,
she cleaned, cooked, cried...
and drank too much.

There were many women in the small town I grew up in (the fifties) like this woman.

Thanks for reading, Jerry. One of the many unforgetable characters from "The Project" in Boise, Idaho where I lived in the fifties.

I remember a few like that, but most I knew were to poor, to worn-out to be June Cleavers - Ha!  Going to have to Boyhood Tales some of that...if you don't mind me stealing your topic somewhat.

Good write, my friend...Much enjoyed.

Yeah , Jimmy. I know what you mean. My own mother would probably fit into that category.
I would love to read your memories of the fifties. I plan on writing more of my own observations in the future.

We really don't know what goes on
in another home until we stop to listen
and feel. Enjoying your insightful poetry, Ida.

You made me see this character, dear Ida, and I feel compassion. That "make-belief perfection" has made uncountable victims I fear.

Very intensely expressed.

Love,
Margherita

Thank you, Eric, always appreciate your comments.

Thanks, Edna. I guess you just had to be there.

I don't see women like that anymore, James.
I guess it was a failed experiment.

I carefully observed this lady, at the age of ten, and never forgot what I learned from her, Margherita.

Hi Ida,
You are observant of life... you see situations with so much clarity (listening to what is not said, seeing what is not visible)... I so admire that. (This is what I ment to say, bad writer that I am). Lol
