Seeking counsel in evening breeze,
birds watch aloof in perch of safety cast
in shadowed treetops knowing
apple green of early leaves will bring reality
with morning sun's chitter, chirp and song,
flocks of grackles seem amused looking down
on talking monkeys in aimless circles strutting,
as if born into importance,
like an ostentation of peacocks left alone
in self absorbed worlds of fantasy,
with too much food and too little thought.

Self-imposed cockiness and preening is the order of the day as you seek relief amid a counsel of the absurd. Our animal friends can be a mirror unto ourselves if we but allow it. Nice thoughts to begin the day, Ice.

Love the impact of the last line. Not quite a K.O. but an appropriate downbeat that followed a rhythm of native american type drumming which is so poignantly sad...

love it, love you.

It's all in your title for me, Icebox.
Our return in life is the result of our deposits during our life. Well done, Ms. E

Interesting (and true) title, Charley, for an excellent poem.
