alone in the forest of my creation
time speeds by
like a downhill racer
I watch the saplings grow
each into worlds of their own
as did I
once upon a time
I’m cold
there is no fire
somehow this seems much too much
like a deathwatch
if Heaven is my
destination I wonder if I’ll like it
Heaven
will there be too much pomposity
and ceremonial procedure
could be you know
and Hell
certainly won’t care much for it
fire and brimstone
I’ve seen fire
never brimstone
except in a hurricane
ah
listen to me
talking like a ninny
still, the saplings keep growing
stretching outward
toward their own place in the forest
some seem to want
to leave the forest
to explore
a new frontier
I did that a long, long time ago
I stretched toward
the stars and moons
of sidewalk cafes
blue moon saloons
and ever-ready honeys
swaggered down mean streets undaunted
somehow survived
I fled
far and away from my hometown
and hate kept me running
I’m not running anymore
but I still live with the hate
I’m not so far from my hometown these days
except in my heart

Like the forest of your creation Heaven could just be the way you imagine it, so imagine it to your liking!

You did a very good job with this one, Jerry!

... love the image of the saplings that keep growing gloriously.

Ah, considering my current "read"
I can see the bent of your mind
and how it reaches, ever reaches
in finding its own place.

Well done, m'friend.

That, then, is the wonderful thing about poetry, no matter how we slice it, it is about the poet . . . Thank you Karlie . . .

Your stylus is in the right groove in this one, Jerry.

This is beautiful soul music.

And the picture amplifies the intensity of the song.

Thanks Ice. Every so often I seem to have the need to vent one more time about something I have never been able to, and doubt that I ever will, forgive. Whatever good that happened to me during my formative years are grossly overshadowed by the crime wrought upon my heart. To this very day this crime rips me anew.

Jerry, I'm impressed - wonderful piece, I'd have to call it my favorite of all I've read of you...

I really like this poem, JP.
It is smooth, like your voice, I imagine.
The story, although sad, is alive in the flow of life.
