.

The lake’s waves wash over
Our footprints in the sand
Gulls from very far away
Gyre over dunes under a
Clear blue sky

I watch you searching
For colored stones along
The shore which I then
Carry in a war surplus bag
As I follow just behind

You couldn’t care less
How much I love the sea
Your long blond hair
Fanning in a summer breeze

Boats tied up at dock
Rise and fall under a yellow sun

A young beautiful golden retriever
I should have known it at the time

This poem seems to start
as a van Gogh painting...
and then it abruptly turns

personal.

As it should be, from a true poet.

Waves on the shore, stone picking and the summer breeze! I am wishing for a beautiful summer full of new discovery with old friends.  I really enjoyed reading this.

It's been a very long time since I walked along the beach and looked at the small treasures to gather there.  I love the sea as well, in all her moods and mysteries, but especially on a cerulean day with someone to share it.  I could see this so clearly, and was touched at the twist, too.  ~K
