Cornflower Blue

Early morning a blackbird calls the tune
Whilst sunlight’s fingers touch each tree in turn
Soon sparkling light will shimmer on the pond
Mice that scurry neath bracken and the fern

And as you stir I see your eyes so blue
Sometimes the dawn comes far too soon for you
I touch your lips there is no need for words
Unspoken thoughts the ones that are so true

The chink of milk upon the doorstep now
Reflecting blue the kingfisher dips again
The babble of a stream a story tells
And passing time to ask the question when

Our time that flows like rivers to the sea
And was yesterday once the day to come
Within the blue you keep your deepest thoughts
In buttercups together we will run

Delightfully romantic! I adore the color cornflower blue. You developed this theme most beautifully.

Interesting thought patterns, for sure with this piece, Michael. I particularly liked this line, "Unspoken thoughts the ones that are so true," because while unspoken thoughts are true, they can also be hiding something.

For whatever reason, I felt as if this could have been a song, one that I might hear Paul sing, if only because it contains so much romance, so much imagery. I could imagine him penning it.

Thank you so much for sharing this. It is a delightful
