Web

The finest gossamer of silk
Hangs still in frosty air
A complicated web she weaves
No rest from her despair

So beautiful the patterns there
And soon the sun to shine
The butterfly that hovers near
Too close another shrine

And so she waits light touch on thread
What prize may come this day
The spring will bring the Mayflies soon
Perhaps to come her way

A sleep so deep or so it seems
But never venture near
A worker toils in pollen fields
There is no time for fear

Like infants wrapped in blankets tight
Her web to spin round you
And rising dread with failing light
Your days were far too few

Once peacock blue your wings so fine
To flutter in the breeze
Your mate now just a distant dream
This web your time to freeze

A rising dawn and thoughts forlorn
The sun to chase the night
No struggle now within the web
Just spirit to take flight

Perchance cobweb are fairies there
Or things of darker shade
Yet somewhere near a chrysalis hangs
And hope will never fade

I like the way you mix the beauty and the lost-ness.  And then the chrysalis shows hope is still here.
