we emerge from the womb
bloody and terrified
that state of affairs should've warned us
if not that
then the resounding slap on the butt;
the harbinger of what lay ahead
life wounds us
be you part of the underclass
or born with that silver spoon in your mouth
life is susceptible to wretchedness
it can come
like a raging inferno
a glacier cold snub and detached
dread of taking the next breath takes its toll
the devil's hounds
penetrate every life form
controlling
strutting to rut with those who have
lemur eyes
as they stare back from wasteland
a echoing fate
yessir you is tha bossman
matters not the how and why of it all
for it mocks
spewing lies sprinkled with bloodlust
life wounds us
deep down
very, very deep down
life struggles and searches for . . .
a diminishing star
a star called hope

Happy Birthday, dear Jerry! May you experience the joyous, luminous, loving side of life today and know that you are loved.

May Hope grow instead of diminishing ... I know in certain moments the wounds that life inflicts, hurt to a degree that we can't see the light. Your poetic expressions are as usual very impressive.

Sending a hug across the world.

Love,
Margherita

Hi, Lori, and thank you for being here and for being a friend.

Ahhh . . . Appreciate that hug, Margherita. I know this isn't the best poem for a birthday, but I go with what I feel. Thanks again.

A very heartfelt and Happy Birthday Jerry.

I think that sometimes, even in the dirty dirty of it all, that even if it's simply the illusion of hope - it still keeps us going.  May you never lose that light, neighbor.

Thanks for the birthday wish, Nicole.

As for the other. I have the most positive attitude possible. I might write about the dark here and there, because it intrigues me and I lived it for so many, many years, but I have a good grasp on what that "hope" is all about.

I'm a 99.9 percent positive person. Cynical, but positive --- and ANY Happy Birthday above ground is a wonderful thing...many more, my friend, unless you want me to pass you up!!

Enjoyed the read.

Well now that is about as perfect a birthday gift as I have ever had, Ms E., and I wholeheartedly thank you for it.
