cynicism and hate lived in me
no room for love
I had it all figured out

pessimism controlled my waking hours
anger visited me in nightmares

obsessed with unconscious death wishes
morbid way shying from the norm

pain grew inside me like green fungus
suffocating whatever goodness was there
I had it all figured out

I have lived long enough to find love
cynicism, hate, pessimism, anger, death-wish-and-pain
I'm just now figuring it out
she has found my heart
