Scenes from The Last Resort - or Jimi Hendrix & The Visionary Generation

Edward Hopper pulled the thread
and the night spun misery
into gold around my darkness door.
I am standing on the point
of embarkation and
San Francisco buzzes like AM radio
in my ears.
Jim Morrison died of a lonesome
heart sickness and took with him
my baited breath, the last of
Walt Whitman's lines spinning
in harmony within his narcotic mind.

1971 bled to smokey tears and the
shattered white Stratocaster
spent it's bullets into the chest
of Vietnam.
And I fall, glide really,
numbed by the napalm death poetry
burning my eyelashes
and filling up my nostrils.
It's on to Berkley via a tattered
train-shaped tear, to roll down
the cheek to California,
hopes in shambles in our hands,
and Ginsburg shoved in our collective
back pockets.

This is the last resort,
the tip of the blood-soaked iceburg,
the rusty remnants of the transition
of jazzy Fitzgerald to bluesy Steinbeck,
and Jack and Neal glued the wreck back
together the best they could,
under the flapping colors on Iwo Jima.
Semper Fi, fallen comrades and
hey, Mr. Murrow, you're on in 3, 2, 1....
"...ignition! God Speed Apollo 11."

Wow! this is like talking blues, the subterranean homesick kind... love it.

*"Look out kid
It’s somethin’ you did
God knows when
But you’re doin’ it again"

But it's all just a purple haze,
and the only ones who know
what's really goin on
is the joker and the thief.

Most excellent poetry S.D.
