Curves

I believe in curves,
their mystery
and their elegance.

The curve of a hand tightly
coupled to another –
two lovers cupped together in sleep.

The delicious swollen curve
of fleshy fruit;
a juicy mango, or a peach.

The perfect circle of red sun
that melts into the west,
rising orange in the east.

Curves that bend me to my task
in concentration
as the hours tumble past.

The curve of words emerging
from the pen or rolling
lightly off the tongue

along the curved path
I follow
to catch up with the minutes

drawn endlessly around
the rim of every clock;
I cannot stop, but I can

think around my failures
become a colour
on the rainbow, the skin of a bubble.

Oh! The redemption of curves
that return me
when I falter, when I wander off course.

For I believe in curves
their mystery
and their elegance;
their voluptuous forever.

Each evening sees it close;
Something attempted, something done,
Has earned a night's repose." Longfellow

OH, I like a lot of these lines.  Especially the skin of a bubble.  Well done

Good to see that you finally posted here, J/Splash
An excellent choice, a poem that I don't think I have seen of yours.

This one is special, as it reflects my basic philosophy of life,
that everything is a circle, an encompassed space, that only the physical
properties of a curve can capture

like you..

"I believe in curves,
their mystery
and their elegance."

The radius of the circle in the poem is clearly defined, marked on its perimeter
by key words that connect the first stanza to the last..
By definition...A perfect circle of poetic thought.

"believe, lovers cupped, swollen, melts, bend, emerging, rainbow,
redemption," and back to " believe"

The lines of this poem are curved, although they are lineal on the paper.
From the first to last lines, it is one big circle of thought...

I love what it says, and the way it is written..
An effective poem...with hidden concreteness.
Thank you for posting it.

"Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance."
Carl Sandburg

It is nice to see you posting a poem; I enjoyed it very much.  I liked how reading it felt like riding through a curved country road.  Very enjoyable.

I saw this poem earlier in the day and was going to get back to it, but things came up and I flat out forgot. But here I am now that your presence on my page reminded me.

Curves is apparent everywhere for the most part. Arc's and curves seem to dominate our world, even the wor5ld itself is a continuous curve meeting itself somewhere along the equator I guess. Enjoyed the poem.

splash, if our poets are good for anything, it is that we encourage one another and always open new possibilities in mindset.

Looking forward to your next poem.
