Mother and Father

The memories are long past
but the freshness of those memories
are that of a thousand roses
in fields of laughter and sunshine…

To think of the times of my childhood
brings warmth to my heart
and a smile upon my face…

And times also,
when I was in the deepest of jungle
with darkness all around,
and no path to go on my own,
yet, they were always there,
there to lend a helping hand,
to light a candle and lead on.

I did not always agree,
but, I was never sorry for the results.
Even though,
as always, a want to be on my own.
And yet, always aware
I could not make it without them
to help and to show the way…

My strive for manhood went ahead
in foolish pride, falling on its face.

With tears in my eyes,
I would rise only to fall again, and again.
And each time,
helped to my feet by loving hands,
hands that were always there, without asking…

They were not always right
in the things they did,
yet, never wrong…
My happiness was their every want,
no matter their sacrifice,
or the cost to their feelings…

My life was meaningless to me,
but to them
it was a lifetime of friendship and love,
which now makes me
the luckiest and happiest man
to be gifted with the most understanding,
and loving,
mother and father…

Your son,
JL

JL, my poet, you did not post a hanky alert.
Bad boy. You really pulled on the heartstrings here.

Thank you so very much for your service. You did your parents proud!

Oh my ..., dear JL, this tugs at my heartstrings and even more so when considering where you wrote these verses of deep connectedness and gratitude.

Exquisite.
