He dreamed the most magnificent dreams
and plotted such elaborate schemes.
Each one a splendid feather
in his imaginary wings.
And with those wings...
he flew.
But like Icarus,
in his joy of freedom,
he flew too close to the sun
and his feathers fell...
one by one.
as he plunged into the sea.
No more dreams,
no more schemes.
Just feathers floating on the water.

We can have dreams, it is wonderful to pursue them, but they must be based on some form of reality or they are doomed as was Icarus'. Loved this poem.

WORD TO HUSBANDS . . .
To keep your marriage brimming
With love in the loving cup,
Whenever you're wrong, admit it;
Whenever you're right, shut up

Well done.

Love poems built around myths..
This one about one who crashes is very good.
Now, perhaps a poem from you about the Phoenix?...one who always rises.

enjoyed......:-)

Nice write Ida.
A stark, but great
reminder that not all that is seen is
truth, and that caution, thought,
and some calculation beforehand can be
an asset.

Very nice!!  I really enjoyed.

I wonder if that's where the saying
"My fine feathered friend" came from?

this excellent 'write' pretty much 'sums up' the fate of all poets and dreamers in this double-post-modern world ... particularly amid the "Runaway American Dream" ... the once proud "People's Democracy" of 'Jeffersonian Purity' envisioned by the founding fathers that has since devolved into a corporate mediocracy of, by, and for the rich, megalithic corporate octopi, 'special interest' lobbies, and various (highly cash-endowed) lunatic fringe religious fundamentalist groups; etc.

Like a moth to flame...Sometimes the dreams take on a life of their own.  I always enjoy your poems, Ida.

Wow, dear Ida! Powerful and sobering in a way. But then what would we achieve if we didn't have our dreams, even utopic ones? Some dreams manifest and some shatter.

You expressed this masterfully.
