Uploaded with ImageShack.us

in the aftermath of my life's history
I venture back into the asphalt
roads of my past
I find myself taking even old dirt roads
between sanctity
and lunacy
never figuring out middle ground
I drug mountains of paranoia behind me
as I walked the same roads
in the bad old days . . . decades
sometimes stumbling into the woods
where a creek ran through it
sitting there
gathering up what resolve
I needed to rise and keep going on
could see no end
except one, of course
a lonely man on a lonely mission
fought heraldic battles
with himself
to rise and continue
I always rose
leaving shadowy ghosts in my wake
pursuing new conquests
new shadowy ghosts
to add to those already there
faceless for the most part
still . . .
it was like being addicted to
crack
I couldn't, wouldn't stop
for if I did
I would have to look at myself
and find truth
but . . .
I was incapable of looking truth in the face
until many, many
years later

It often takes those years... but we need to give ourselves... and others... whatever time it takes. And it's different for each of us.

I'm glad you're now in a good place... and enjoyed the look back!

Some people are forever lost for many different reasons, Jerry. I'm glad you're in a better place.

Ida, Thank you very much, and I am happy I am where I am also.

It took me long enough, yann, but I am grateful I lived to see it. Thanks for the nice comment.
