Don't be late

I recall when I was three, or maybe I was four
Red Indians I had to chase, and cats like lions roar
And faces staring out at night, from the wardrobe doors
My mother came to hold me tight, and tears they flowed no more
She stroked my hair, and kissed my cheek, told stories never lies
And slowly as the night wore on, I smiled and closed my eyes

Seven years pass, long trousers on, and exams to take
Black labrador my birthday gift, the walks we used to make
My mum so proud, her choirboy, to sing the sweetest sound
But growing up, not always hers, with girls to chase around
But even then, young love to hurt, silent were my cries
But mother said, don't worry love, sleep, just close your eyes

Seven years more, a young man now, football cups to win
Be careful of the girls my love, I'd answer with a grin
That fateful day, as off to school, my mother waved to me
Don't be late, just hurry home, it's sausages for tea
But Angels came, too soon I'd say, on wings up to the skies
And no more words she spoke to me, life's end, had closed her eyes

Loved this soliloquy, this remembrance of her. It was beautiful. It was sad. Beautifully sad.

Oh wow...

tenderly wrought...
as only a mother's son could do.

Very touching and beautiful! To have such a mother is a blessing too many never experience... and no length of time with such a mother is long enough.
