Gypsy

'cross Yorkshire moors I'd walked that day
And dusk was falling round
So tired was I, so far away
And nature hushed the sound

The heather softened each footfall
And wimberries abound
And high above a Skylark call
And sky meets purple ground

Then in the copse I saw below
Pale smoke, a rising plume
And by a stream a fire did glow
One shadow in the gloom

And as I neared, I saw a girl
She danced to unheard tune
Above bare feet, her skirts unfurl
Her arms raised to the Moon

So very close, so young but wise
Then quickly she did glance
The stars that twinkled in her eyes
My mind she did entrance

Ny Gypsy girl, please dance with me
So close, we moved as one
Please stay with me, this night my plea
Until the dark has gone

So pale the Moon, her face to shine
The softness of her skin
In such short time, a Love divine
Her heart, my Love, within

Then cold of dawn, my hands reached out
My Gypsy girl had gone
Was this a dream, my heart cried out
Not true, what we had done

But by the stream two roses lay
One white, one red, you know
My Gypsy girl, shows me the way
And Love will simply grow

Beautiful rendition of a chance meeting with very nice results.

A wonderful ballad... i just love the way the story unfolds and completes itself so mysteriously. The last verse is perfect! Enthralling to read.
