1.

morning keeps me caged in light,

our house is a husk against the cold,
nothing stirs within, or out, the leaves
fallen through panes of glass,
a monochrome of sepia, muted
like stones in the pasture seen from this distance,

I
empty me,
it is Autumn
and we are still here in the pink of it,
lie to me, just a little,
tend the frail on either side of our sere trellis of ferns,

the children have grown querulous beneath the eaves,

how it frightens me to live like this,
by memory’s poor diminished light,

give me something crisp,
a token,
a crown,
a collar,
an iron shawl
across the bed, laced together,
the moon begins to bleach the house,
and spill through its fragile shatter of glass and light,

our bodies abandoned, bear the story
on pages composed each night in verse...

2.

though the night's looking glass glints ruthlessly northward,
there is tensile strength to the locks,
if memory serves, I may find the means to pray
with the faith you hold in the hale and buoyant movement of your hands,
like rills along my pulse, my skin, your voice,
a blue shiver upon the dark dune,

I ransom no body from the gallows and even so,
the brink of that place goes on stalking me,
your eyes, my image of wind and summering,
your scent, a line to do with leaves,
your grin, the gist of moorage,

forget, I am told, empty me
into any once upon a time,

postpone your departure, my love,
there may be a miracle in the offing,
the hours are now inlaid with gold,
the body,
a sonnet,
a song.

As I was reading this my mind was suddenly catapulted inside the pages of a little book by Joyce Carol Oates by the name of Beasts, I read quite a few years ago. It is the feel of your poem and the feel of her little novel, both of which speak of utter yearning and remorse. Very bel1e-like is this and that is a good thing.

To be immersed in the influence of this would be in that dream state, and contently
listening as your emotional expressions in word justify a deep heartfelt longing.
Love this write, and the closing verses…. Beautiful.

A Belladonna Dream...Inspired by the essential oil of nightshade?
I don't think so, It is apparent that you enjoy the natural high
that comes from the love, and use of beautiful language.

The pasture stones are not so large
When seen up close, taken up
And skipped across
The misty pond of metaphor

Each ring where it hits,
Expands to the ponds edge
Until all seems calm,
And nothing is left, but

"the body,
a sonnet,
a song."

Just had to come back and read again!
This time it gave me chills.....
(Or is it goose bumps?)
Kinda like a fibulator re-start...

Belle girl...

I am always in awe of not only your lovely lexis, but your innermost creativity shared so freely. Where you come from, does not matter, but your dreams, they are another light altogether.

Always lovely, always mesmerizing...

is our Belle...
