"The Cookie Jar Murder"
(from Boyhood Tales)

One.
Gone -
Nothing left of him
but a disturbance where last he lay.

He?
Did I say he?
Who knows, now-a-days.
It could be she,
or maybe . . . it.
It - that's as gender-generic as one can get.
So,

It was gone.
Not a sign It had ever existed . . .
just the disturbance where It last lay,
the crumbs that said It ever existed at all.

The investigating team finished,
said they might be back,
but the area had been wiped clean,
most of the clues where gone.

They left - hope left.

Mom and Dad hugged me,
went into the living room,
and I was left standing alone,
in the kitchen,
looking into the bottom
of the cookie jar,
where only a few crumbs marked
It had ever existed at all.

The cookie I had saved all week.
The last One.
It, was gone.
And not a sign It had ever existed . . .
just the disturbance where it last lay,
the crumbs that said It ever existed at all.

I started crying, wailing!
"I'll make some more!" Yelled Mom.
But I didn't care, I only wanted It,
and It was gone . . .

Murdered, in the cookie jar.

You may be right, my friend.  I'll pass that on to NCIS (I was in the Navy so maybe I can convince them it was a sea-biscuit!)so they'll take the case.

A grand metaphor for something very much deeper than crumbs within a cookie jar.

I think Dad, did the deed..
I know if this was my house, I probably would have been the perpetrator.

Fun poem, JW-  I enjoyed it

That's No Cookie In Sight, Inc, 'deer.  They're recognized as the best in the business,
and created the "Cookie Alert" network across the country.  You may see my cookie on milk cartons next week.  Here's a description you can pass on ...

Size: About 4" (3.37548 actually).
Golden Brown, smooth bottomed and a rough texture on top where the chunks of walnut and semi-sweet chocolate protrude.

It was a very well behaved cookie and would never go anywhere with a stranger . . . so I suspect (shudder) it was a family member, or a good friend . . .

I miss it terribly...(one tear, two tears, three . . . ).

j.

Wow, just realized, if Lorna Doone did it, as you say ... then Lorna Doone could be a family member!!!

That's scary!!

Thank you ebonygirl, JerryPat2, and Ice for your support.

It's been many years since my cookie was murdered and it's never been found, but I'm trying to have the case reopened.

Again, thanks my friends.

Haahaaaaa.....
Such a joy!  I think this should be made into a movie, well at least a scene in a movie!

LOL... We had a similar crime wave. *S* After the demise of the entire Lemon Jumble family, my grandmother decided all her grandchildren tall enough to reach the table were guilty... sentence was passed down without a trial, punishment was swift and painful. LOL Dontcha just love the theory of guilt by association? LOL

I had brothers and wouldn't have expected a cookie to last five seconds in my house, let alone a week. Enjoyed this little mystery.

So glad to read this sweet mystery. My cookie Jar has some DNA left in the bottom, too, but alas, whoever left it there has been long gone.  Chalk another one up to Mr. Nobody.

J. I am so sorry for your loss, but I think I must print this out to share with my partner in crime.   Thank you for the smile.  Too cute!

I grieve with you, so many possibilities, it had such a great future, and now, no more.
