I open the door just a
crack, to see how the weather fair
for me. The phone told me it will
be windy, my skin told me it
will be sunny, warm. They were
both right, I step out with
the wind in my hair, untamed and the sun
kissing my face.
I walked down
GrandRiver the street, not the
actual river. The sky was clear
with little white trails of
so called clouds. I pass the
high school lot where seagulls
and Michigan geeses drink
muddy water's of crumbs
left from the winds
travel across our motor city.
It truly felt like spring and
summer mixing, like me mixing
two drinks becoming one or
something beautiful in the
aftermath. Somehow this day
felt like all my past summers
and springs
when I was younger. Dashing
across lots, parks filled with
flowers and unknown creatures
instead of broken bottles,
trash. Having the time of
my life not thinking of the
things to come or the fears
that follow after it. After this
I may go to the Downtown River Walk
and stare across Canada. Seeing the
people driving, walking and having
fun at the dock. Wondering if any
ever thought how we are so close
yet so distant..were only 32 miles
by water and 5mins from the bridge.
Yet were are still distant like the
sun and
     the moon.

Very enjoyable travelogue write and read, Ken. You gave the reader (me) a view of places I had never seen. Of course the years took a toll on your city as it does everything. But still, the empty lots with the broken bottles and all the rest it is still home, and I know you love Motor City. As far as Canada, I sense a lot of animosity coming from there over the years.

Good write.

Thanks for reading Jerry, I do still love my city. I was just thinking as I wrote it down before it left me. Also your right everyone(everything)is taking a toll. But soon all will be anew and even better than before.
