my demons are not dead
no
they thrive within me as would
a convict in his cell
like that convict
my demons cannot escape
I have built walls to keep him in
same as the world
constructs its own walls
complete with the faint at first,
but louder as you grow to hear
the ticking of death's clock
all the world's a stage
some lunatic poet observed
quite correctly,
we live in another's skin much of the time
acting out what we want others to see
keeping our dark
to ourselves
praying we don't live forever
and the inner lie
will surface and God knows what you will do
poets are truth detectors
we have problems with frauds; can't abide them
poets believe we are worthy
of something better
so we dig into our psyche
pluck out secrets from the heat of a funeral pyre
we don't hide
bodies in a swamp
bodies in a crypt
no . . .
we expose them to the world
to exorcise them
if, by chance we do not do that
we are, then, charlatan poets

We mainly expose ourselves to the light, which is a good thing since the light purified us. Enjoyed Jerry ,

Thank you, tracie66, I am happy the poem got to old gray matter to mull things over.

How very true. Sometimes the digging hurts, sometimes it heals... but honesty is what pushes our pens.

Great write!

Yeah, but we never know whether it will hurt or heal, suthern, unless we start digging. Thank you for being here.

poets are truth detectors

oh yes, oh yes

I have exorcised so many demons by exposing them poetically........this is excellent! probably the truest thing I have read in quite some time...

If it wasn't for poetry, luminosity, I would still be fighting my demons. Thank you for your kind words.
