I’ve taken time to contemplate
The way my life has gone.
Consider choices I have made,
Whether right or wrong…
I wallowed in self-pity
For awhile, and then moved on…
Content to die the way I’ve lived…
Defiant, and alone.

I wasted years, and wasted words
And opportunities.
Going anywhere I chose,
And living as I pleased…
Selfish is my nature
And cynic’s been my game.
Perhaps I’ve earned a niche inside
The loser’s Hall of Fame.

I’ve blown my shot at romance
It never had a chance.
While the Devil fiddled-
I did the sucker’s dance…
I look back in amazement-
To yesterday, it seems…
And nearly sixty years have passed
And haunt me in my dreams.

I’ve neglected people
Whose only crime was love.
And left them sad and lonely,
When push turned into shove…
I am not seeking pity, friend
The choices were my own
And find it quite amazing
At how the time has flown.

Yesterday was ours to live as we chose, we may or not see tomorrow but today is ours to live as we choose...James

Everyone has regrets. I like to think each life is a learning experience.

Well captured, we all look back with regrets but life goes on. Enjoyed.

"And nearly sixty years have passed
And haunt me in my dreams."

Wow, what a statement.
So true, so true.
The realization is the start to
correction.

Seems like you have made your choices and lived a life that you wanted, filled with adventure.  Now you are talented enough to share them in poems with people like me.

Thank you for sharing.
