I’ve given it a lot of thought…
What I want from life:
How things don’t turn out as they ought,
And days are filled with strife.

How unfulfilling are my dreams…
How plans all go awry:
The dew of youth so quickly yields,
To old age: sere, and dry.

The dreams which once appeared so real…
Did prove so gossamer:
Did cynicism finally steal,
All hope from where they were?

Happiness is but a word…
A frivolous pursuit:
And coldness grips a heart once warm,
The point is truly moot.
