.

It’s very easy
After forty years
Especially for one
Who has made it
Through

To make light
Of the heat
The long monsoon
Sound of guns
Rockets coming in

The stupid ways
We found to die
The green just there
Then disappeared

Oh we were young
And had no clue
Protected by what
We didn’t know

I have no
Fond memories
Of Vietnam

Boots in the corner
No plaque on the wall

those were most difficult times indeed ...

worse than the loss of 'innocence' (for me at least) ...
was the loss of 'faith' or 'belief' in anything ...

Thank you

This thing came as a reaction,
(not a response), to:

http://www.amazon.com/Semper-Cool-Marines-Memories-Vi etnam/dp/0982518404/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1330734733&sr=1-1

which represents along with a bad biography
of General Westmorland over half the books I’ve
read about that war.

Thanks again for reading

John

I believe Wiford Owen, had he not been killed, would have written something like this, after, had he had an after.

Excellent war poem.

"It is difficult
to get the news from poems
yet men die miserably every day
for lack of what is found there"
(William Carlos Williams)

I couldn't agree with you more... I've heard silence, not stories... and seen the eyes of brave men look away from memories. It wasn't cool by any definition of the word.

Thank you so much for your service.
