Talking to the moon

Well I awoke again last night, the hour had just struck one
And fingers of the moonlight tease, and where have our days gone
No clouds to sail across the sky, so bright the fullest moon
And then again I woke at three, this night would pass too soon
And now the coming of the dawn, milk bottles clinking near
An orange glow, to light the way, another day I fear
A rising sun that gives no warmth, to chase away my chill
And down the stairs the rooms so quiet, alone without you still
I turn the tap, the kettle fills, and watch your Robin red
I know his tune, the one you sing, it's always in my head
And can a heart still carry on, without its truest friend
And from that friend, a love that grew, if broken you can't mend
So don't you tell me what I want, or what I need to do
I give my heart and soul to you, our days are far too few

Sad lament, and one that is carried out daily by far too many in the same sinking boat. Nice write.

Beautiful, though so achingly sad, reduced me to tears, knowing.

How sad yet beautiful your words come forth in your poem.
