Mid-winter fills outspace with cold,
But inside place is warm with hope.
When windows frame the white of snow
My mind shifts gears of times machine
To when the earth begins to wake,
When bluebirds seek to find a mate,
And all the flowers paint their face--
Excited to take center stage.
*
Brittle-stubble breaks through frozen ground;
The garden barren now, shows only bits
Of crookneck-yellow-rind as hard as glass,
Poking through the ice wound scab
From Its final place, of unused rest..

There the orphan child of green
Met sad  demise...wasted where
A mother squash had fond prepared
For it a proper summer nest.

But I break stride, from that sad race,
Allowing spring flower-cloud billows
To raise from fairy tale sugar-plum
Pictures..something came in post today;

Some wizard filled my numbered box
With colored  books of summer dreams,
Magic splashed in bright green gage-
Pictures of sugar snaps, red tomatillos
(if you like husk tomatoes)  all
Of the bounty that comes in hot season,
Arrived on my winter-time, real-time scene;

Melons  seem their most delicious
When painted on glossy catalog paper
As possibilities--having power to raise
A low drooping spirit, by morphing it
Several months...into an August future;

I fill in the blanks, line by line
Lick a stamp, and raise the flag
That begs the mailman's attention;

Coping the snow waved lane both ways
Today, its drifted, boot-lace deep
But I pay no attention, being filled with faith
Renewed in hope, myself reminding
Spring is only time, and space away;

Something came in post today.

And for all your rabid gardeners out dere (of which I am not, stores are for tomatoes, etc., harhar) at this time of the year the seed catalogs are better than drooling over porn magazines. I am always amazed at the patience and complete devotion those who toil the soil put into it. And, when everything has peaked at their respective times there is no picture printed on anything that can touch the beauty of the efforts sprung forth from their work and sweat.

Line by line, one can smell
the earth,
appreciate the apprehension,
and taste the results...

Oh Spring!

this made me smile.  i love seed catalogs; i love the excitement of trying to decide what to plant, and waiting for the seeds to come in the mail.  i am by no means a master gardener, but i love the cultivation and caring and meditation that goes into tending one.  Makes me want to check the mail.

This reminds me of when I had more than a few square feet on a balcony. *S* Burpees, Parks... I loved them all... and love this!

Thank you all for reading , and the replies.........:-)

These are the long days of waiting
But the days of waiting grow longer
A few minutes each day
Bringing us closer to spring..
