Love

The epitome of pain.
The emotional drain.
The withered strands of a life,
Waiting on a wife.

The curse to which I'm prone,
A court jester on a throne.
The kingdom of disarray,
Disillusion and decay.

The lies spoken through silence.
The passion provoked to violence.
The expression in your eyes,
A tightened grip on severed ties.

Forgotten images of a dream.
A gaping rictus, a muted scream.
The voice echoing in my head.
The ambivalence of living dead.

The darkness on my soul.
The emptiness, its whole.
The sheen of tears uncried
Upon dead eyes, opened wide.

Forgone conclusions of wrath...
A reiterating aftermath.
The price paid to appease
A pining one could never please.

The ever-pendulous emotions.
The fragmented, whimsical notions.
The garnishment of a name,
A brandishing of shame.

The puzzle missing a piece.
A chimera, a caprice.
A word that only tips the tongue,
From a song we never sung.

Wow!
Very heavy emotional writing.
That ending was superb!
Hard tough situational love for sure.

When you get down with the gettin' down, Michael you are a legend in your own time. I have always admired your constant rhyming patterns and how you can weave the poem to your making and not miss a rhyme. I like to rhyme also, and do occasionally, but you have the debs on dark poetry here at PiP, and are second to NONE.

Michael,

if I have ever agreed with Jerry, it would be now.

And probably tomorrow, too.

Write on my friend, even if it isn't Valentine's Day.

JL, thank you, this was a little dedication to my ex-wife.  Eight years together and I think it's quite safe to say love never entered the picture on her part... and thus the ending.  All in all, I'm just glad the ending finally did come.

JP, that's one heck of a compliment.  I thank you, Sir... and will continue to try to impress.

K., what can I say, Valentine's Day has always brought out the absolute worst in me.... Lol.  Tomorrow I will write something sweet, I promise.  Yup, just wait.. you'll see.  You're nor doubting me are you?

LOL @ writing something sweet after Valentine's Day... I hope K isn't holding her breath! LOL

You know I love every line of this... ahem... love poem. *G* It's the breath of angst I needed after seeing the sap I posted once again. LOL I just wish so much it came from your brilliant imagination instead of actual experience! *S*

As for the poem itself... I can't improve on what JerryPat said... When he's right, he's RIGHT!!! *S*
