am I wearing my clowns mask today
for I am suspended on a tightrope of love
and as I look down to reality
I sway preciously in a dizzying balance act
I beam with a lovers joy
but not sure of the next faltering step
will it be the fatal step and I plunge
into the vortex of love's swirling riptide
am I wearing my clowns mask today

Never looking down is a good rule, when you are on that kind of a tightrope!   Can't imagine a more charming expression than you "beaming with a lover's joy". That alone gives you confidence and encourages the one who looks at you to be daring too. (... just in case the faltering thing may happen - but there is a 1 to a million possibility - you may want to imagine a safety net anyway!)

Very cute poem and picture indeed!

ps the Europeans are up and ready for the afternoon nap already, but the sun is shining and a brisk walk might be the better choice

I completely agree about that safety net, Margherita . The chance for survival grows greater with one. Thank you for coming into my world, and I hope the walk will be pleasant . . .

The picture is perfect, Jerry..
Awaken, and choose a mask..yup, that is what we do....you say that in the poem, and very well..

Which clown should I be today?
And then the poem tells which one you chose.

We wear different masks all the time; but in love, when taking the risk of stepping onto a tightrope, I would say there is no mask.  There is only a person, mortal and fallible, saying "here, this is me."  That's the real deal, there.  I love how your pictures go so well with your poems; although the faceless guy is a little skeery.  But I'm just skittish.

"I plunge into the vortex of love's swirling pride." I like that like line JP. I see love as a big cannon ball splash; where you and your love are soaked by it.

You are so right, Ice, we all wear our masks. The difficulty is finding one which suits our needs at the time. I like to say I don't wear a mask, I'm who I am without a mask. But of course we all wear some sort of mask according to whom we are involved with at the time. Thanks for jumping in here, I always appreciate your input.

Nicole, I agree that, when in love, we need to return our masks to the wall of masks, and just be ourselves. A difficult thing to do, because we are trying to put our best foot forward to impress the apples of our eyes. That is only a natural thing to do, if sometimes we aren't truthful. Unfortunately, in many cases, the masks come off when the marriage is over and done with and then we show our spouses who we really are. I appreciate your presence here . . .

I see that cannon as well, Ms E., and hopefully we will use love's essence to our mutual benefit. Thanks for being here.

Wow... An eerie portrayel of doubt if ever there was one.  Awesome pic btw.  We all wear masks at times.  It's scarey though when one realizes that sometimes the masks choose us instead of the other way around.  Enjoyed this much.

Your poetry is far too true to the depth of your soul, Jerry, that any mask would fit to hide the real you. I like you just the way you are!

Very astute, Michael . . ."the masks choose us." I agree. Thank you for being here.

Thank you for your very nice comment, Marcia. I didn't comment on your latest poem because you personalized it for someone.
