In The Town of Dream America

Red letter 'A' daylight,
scratch the American sky of remnant raindrop tears
a future passenger just coming into sight,
we climb the hills over this town
and breathe out the smoke of these years,
pressing fears
of the day when I must move away...

And this town,
pulse of the freeway
hastens the blood red sun going down
in this town,
somewhere in the death throes
of dreaming America,
I think I'm going down...

Blue angel eye skyglass,
reflecting my suburbia apathy for this enemy fire
but my punk girlfriend can save my ass
she climbs the hills over this town
to light the fuse of my farewell funeral pyre,
a white-walled tire
I'll roll away until the end of day

And this town...
curse of a birthday
listening to the Clash when you came 'round
and in this town,
somewhere in the overdose
of dreaming America,
love died without a sound.

Black devil moonlit night
uncover diamond stars fallin' like your tears, dear
a past I abandoned dances back into sight
we climb the hills over this town
to breathe in the smoke and disappear,
we're outta here
tomorrow's the day when I must make my way...

Ohh I'm goin' down
listen to the sound
of this town at sundown
at the drop of a dime
and this time,
I'm gonna drag it down with me.

"Negotiations & love songs are often mistaken for one and the same."--Paul Simon

Hey Soul Drifter, if you've got to go, you've got to go. Kinda like Ventura Highway, in a punk way.
Enjoyed, Ms. E

... travelin' man, I can feel the wind change and the music is audible in your words.  You have a real talent for lyric and the words tug with wanderlust and push with closing doors.  All the emotions jamb, and I found myself watching tail lights in the night.

fine imagery and very good writing here ...

I am especially fond of:

"somewhere in the overdose
  of dreaming America,
  love died without a sound."
