no longer a child
the G.I. Joe
I used to dress
in combat fatigues
no longer a toy

Excellent!

At a cocktail party, one woman said to another,
'Aren't you wearing your wedding ring on the wrong finger?'
'Yes, I am. I married the wrong man.'

Some things transform us forever. You express this so efficiently.

Great tanka.

Jerry, Alison, Margherita:

Thanks for your generous comments.

Yes, as I grow up, I now see G.I Joe not as a toy, but as a representation of all the soldiers who fight in pointless wars that are smokescreens for greed and political favour.

That is how I perceived this, and it left me feeling solemn; it is so well done.  I didn't want to say that though and inadvertently offend.

Yeah, and it is a good thing that we do grow-up;
and realize that sometimes we fight and live
or die, or become fodder for the elite.
Many "no longer a child" went to defend
and lost doing their job, many lived, I celebrate both!
God Bless all the G.I. Joe men and women.
From the founding of the U.S. to today.
