I said to her, I am too old,
But then winked and said, old enough,
I puffed up my chest and laughed,
Knowing that she would call my bluff.

I went to a fortune teller,
Asked her if love would visit me,
She just smiled and held out her hand,
She didn't tell fortunes for free.

I crossed her palm with silver coins,
She pursed her lips, said, She is wed,
Look about you, find another,

And then her magic cards she read.

I departed the witches' den,
Wondering how she knew a lot,
About my married lover's state,
I wish I could untie the knot.

Love is a crooked thing I've seen,
It takes you down some dim-lit streets,
But love is love, that's all it is,
Everything else takes a backseat.

At a cocktail party, one woman said to another,
'Aren't you wearing your wedding ring on the wrong finger?'
'Yes, I am. I married the wrong man.'

Ahhh... Yeah, love doesn't really give a whit about things like circumstances.  Generally the more difficult the situation, the deeper it burrows.  The witch said to look about; as if there's a choice in the matter.

Absolutely, Nicole, you know the where's and why's of this obsessive thing called love it appears. "Look about?" Right. It doesn't work like that. Thanks for the comments . . .

It's just wonderful when "love visits" ... The words "it cannot be" lose quickly consistence, love knows no barriers, we are the ones who create them.

Very nice poem, Jerry, enjoyed it.

Margherita, you know what you are talking about. Love is the ultimate in emotions. Thank you for being here.

Your little quote at the bottom of the poem is profound, Jerry. I love how it ties into the topic above it.

These things hardly ever work out, but there is a slim chance.

This is a dilemma for sure..what to do, what to do?

Ya got me thinking, JP..and that means I like the poem

Appreciate the time taken to analyze my poem, yann, eh, love is so many things to so many people, and then it can turn into vicious hate at a moment's notice.

<><>

Haha! Yeah, I like that quote at the bottom, of course, and it is certainly in line with this poem to a point. Thanks, Ice, for being here in my place in the blue house.

"love is love, that's all it is,
Everything else takes a backseat."

You said it!
Great write, Jerry.
