When candles burn
in steady pace,
night balanced
on Midwinter's face,
evening turns within itself,
churning,
chasing heady curls of promise
laced in clouds and woven
through with incense smoke,
as if enthralled by captives
tangled
bindings on a private joke
spun and lost to history,
as if drift of time itself
could be contained
within pace of hope,
as mystery
polished by the patient,
pretenders in belief.

After looking up "Imbolc", this beauty became comprehensible to me.  I love your own richly tapestried comment on Imbolc:

as if enthralled by captives
tangled
bindings on a private joke
spun and lost to history,
as if drift of time itself
could be contained
within pace of hope,
as mystery
polished by the patient,
pretenders in belief.
