I retrieved the cross you gave me
from the car I left behind after the motor blew
I had taken it from my pocket
and put it there because I was afraid it
would bend, the metal was so soft and luminescent
and I knew it was safe there,
oh but I do have to add that I put it in my  pocket
instead of around my neck
because I do not wear jewelry and had not decided
where I wanted to hang it,
I used to have it on my monitor
but when we moved offices...well
I am now writing to tell you that
the cross you gifted me with has found its home.

It is hung around the rearview mirror in my car,
your gift a connection to span the distance between.
When it sways from the many bumps and potholes,
it reminds me to pray.
I pray for you
for me
for forgiveness
and for Hope
I pray a lot for Hope.

Hope is all that keeps the spirit from dying.
Hope was given to span the distance between
this world and the next, but
so many souls are barely hanging on,
so many in need of help in this world
that I think perhaps Hope is overloaded.
And so I pray,
when I see the cross swaying in life's turbulence
I pray for Hope.

This is eye-wellingly beautiful, so very especially the part where the cross swaying from the bumps and the potholes reminds you to pray.  I, too, pray that you will be forgiven and that your hopes will be realised and that the 2 of you will be happily and deeply re-united.

Hope is a rare commodity, and sometimes all one can do to get through it all is to pray for that.  Nicely done.

lovely write, and yes, hope is what keeps the spirit from withering...however, reaching out to others and putting ourselves behind, also helps...

Oh, lady... this went straight to my heart, lubricated by tears. Hope may be overloaded... but that you have such a precious reminder to pray is proof that Hope just takes a nap now and then... She never really leaves our lives. *S*

Ordinarily, I'd wish you a smooth path. *S* But instead... I'm claiming the next pothole swing of gift. *G* Love you, O&O!

OwlSA we will sadly probably never 'see' each other in this life, but we are connected nonetheless...by an ampersand of all things *smile*

Nicole, thank you very much

LeeJ thank you, and yes, praying hope for others actually fosters Hope in ourselves

Suthern, you get every swing, *smile* it is the cross you sent me

Yes, a gift indeed is in hope.

Very much enjoyed the read.

Not just a collection of beautifully chosen, smooth flowing words and phrases, but a collection that is not trite in any way, shape, or form. A lovely, thoughtful piece on an old, enormously written about, subject.

Appreciated this in many ways.

Maybe hope is overloaded but still it allows us all to cling to it, doesn't it.  Good poem.  Great thoughts.
