early on, I learned to live on air,
now I am done being sturdy of bones

& wear our days like a halo
welded onto the wet retina, tears

where the darkness touched, the heart
is but a wall of throbbing striations,
each a devastation,

I stand in the amber passage of brief wings,
any shift in philosophy ushers in the need
for new habits of the body,

I am learning how to lift them gently,
turn them swiftly and rest them again,
on their wings, wings to glass
which I sand smooth each morning,

to do it without flutter,
with as little as possible daylight,
a corral where shadows cannot move,

caged, it is a strange gymnastics,
their bodies, mine:

what to grasp,
when to release in scraps of sunlight
tossed by drafts for miles,
unfolding their procession,

how a few lose their bearing
and drop to the ground,

usually, night's slow failing will summon
forgetting,

but oh how the dark shatters,
& love swells into a temple
where it is held prisoner,

snow in kites and wings
to fill the field beyond with poppies,
and swamp abandoned rows,

to wrap grief in its brief tinsel,
I whittle the orchids white fever
into an epiphany, an arrhythmia as it freckles,

such is my devotion,

sadly, love is often weaker than gravity,
& I'm learning how the will of the whole
channels into fingertips,elbows, wings

though I've since learned to cringe
before my knees buckle.

What an effect this has on me!
You have painted a picture, framed it well,
signed it, and caused the entire world to
stop for a look.  Beautiful expression
in your "Butterfly Effect".

You do it very well!

"I stand in the amber passage of brief wings"

I adore that line!

Amazing work, as always. Very dreamy, hypnotic and too too beautiful...

I have missed reading you.

Coming down is always the hardest part.  I only cringe because my knees have buckled the wrong direction on a few of my erm..."landings."

"But oh how the dark shatters
& love swells into a temple
where it is held prisoner

A lovely rendering.

softly, sadly, soulfully
the wings of a butterfly
touch, tickle, linger
and forever more
leave an imprint
on my heart
and I sigh

this butterfly effect of yours definitely did just that

Love is the life of the soul...
It is the harmony of the universe
