Outside
Beyond
The window
There are figures
Moving very slowly
On the streets below

They seem
Like ghosts almost
Lost in an afterworld
That offers little
In consolation
For having come
At last this far

The gray air
The leafless trees
An absence of future
Or anywhere to go

The scene portends
Tomorrow
Will be the same

And no bird calls
