The One

At a time of dreamless America,
I went on dreaming anyway
but I never really captured the feeling
until the day...

You walked in
and we talked...
and we talked in
wounded phrases
through all these moon phases
I spilled out how I felt for you in song
I never knew this would go on so long,
yeah I was just dreaming again,
oh for the phantom far-off time
when your heart would become a part of mine

Ten years, ten years down,
and I wonder how,
just how many to go,
until we know,
well, it seems we're destined to be together
holding this thing together, apart
through dark weather
and broken hearts
a love not spoken aloud
hiding away in all this fear and doubt
oh but the words springing out of my heart
you have influenced, inspired from the very start.

The very first to read the lines,
the only soul to know my mind,
inside and out
all I can't do without,
defined by the shape of your presence
shake off the useless pretense,
say all that you are
measure the distance, you're so very far
oh but you're closer to me
than anyone could ever be.

And tonight as I lay awake,
in sleepy, dreaming America,
I am spilling again
my torn heart wide open
upon these pages like I have done,
long since the day we met and I found out you were the one
oh you are the one...
you will always be
the one.

Another fine song.  Do you have music to go with this?
Enjoyed.

This needs to be put to music.  Has it been?  It's a song worth singing and listening to.
