ORANGE DELIGHT
20 January 2012

Today my soul chose orange
through my open window,
where Bauhinia galpinii blossoms
were warm-laughing their dancing beauty
on a cool green background décor
and the flood of colour smiled me to delight
as monkeys bounded from tree to tree
in the foreground;

and later, on the road,
sister trees in other gardens
and fringing the local nature reserve
as though today is the day of
Bauhinia galpinii

and then on the freeway,
as if to smile me further,
Spathodia campanulata bells
trilled their happy East African songs

a day of orange delight
as bright as the glorious
blazing summer sun
in a sky of pristine blue.

Sounds like an orange delightful day.:-)

"Today my soul chose orange
through my open window,
where Bauhinia galpinii blossoms
were warm-laughing their dancing beauty
on a cool green background..."

Bauhinia galpinii

"and then on the freeway,
as if to smile me further,
Spathodia campanulata bells
trilled their happy East African songs"

Spathodia campanulata

You are well aware that I have to do this, arent you?

Love the poem, very warm...:-)

My dear friend,

The imagery in your wonderful poem has lifted my spirits and sent them soaring. Here it is raining, very cold, blustering winds and with a threat of snow which we seldom have. Thank you for the nice respite.

Thank you, Marcia.  I am glad to have brought some summery colour happiness to revive your spirits and to remind you that the seasons turn, as difficult as that may seem to feel at times.  Smiles.

Thank you, Bruce, for your kind words.

Thank you, Amaryllis, for enjoying sharing this with me.  Good to see you back.  I look forward to reading your excellent poetry.

This made me think of summer, and these frozen confections that we have here that I adored as a child - they were orange.  It made me think of the smell of orange blossoms in November, here, as well - a glorious smell.  Beautiful!

I love "orange" and I love blossoms.  So I have to love this poem.  Right?  It's simply splendid.

This would brighten any day, Diana. We are experiencing a little rain here but nothing major and most of the time the weather has been sunny and beautiful. My flowers are blooming in the middle of January. Who could ask for more.

Thank you, Ida for your happy message.  I am glad you enjoyed it so much and that you are having such lovely weather and a blooming garden.

South Africa, and particularly, Durban, where I live, I think (I could be wrong, but I don't think so!), has the most wonderful weather in the world - the worst it ever gets is very hot in summer with convectional storms some afternoons - but it never rains more than a maximum of 3 days at a time in Durban - and even that is seldom - and a little too cold for me in winter now (but I loved the winter when I was young), but it is nnnnnnnnnnothing like the winters in some parts of the world.  The wide African skies and gardens are beautiful all year round and besides having an indigenous forest for a garden myself, the suburb in which I live is a conservancy area and has many indigenous trees and a nature reserve.  I have a troop of monkeys who visit my garden at least twice a week for about half an hour at a time and sometimes more and they feed on the fruits of the trees and cavort holding me spellbound when I allow myself the time to watch them - not to mention the birds that sing and feed in my forest every day and the ones that have nested in my Acacia xanthophloeas (exquisitely beautiful fever trees).  I regard myself as one of the luckiest people in the world.

I found the descriptions in your poem created a good, visual picture in my mind of your home grounds, but when I read the last stanza, I don't know why, but it suddenly enhanced the poem with the image of that glorious blazing sun in a pristine blue sky. Glorious indeed! Good, descriptive poem.

Thank you, Ron.  I adore my country, and especially its natural beauty, but I believe that every country abounds in natural treasures that are there for everyone to see and delight in.  It saddens me that so many people don't notice it.  Here, people complain so easily that it is hot, when I am over the moon about what an exquisitely beautiful day it is.  It pleases me indeed, to see that you are one who notices the microcosmic beauty in our macrocosmic world.
