Fair to middlin' of nowhere

New Year’s Resolutions
are something I quit making
What with the road to hell
and all that about good intentions
I estimate I paved my way close enough
(Unintentionally, of course)
So what with new beginnings
and all that about today being
the first day of the rest of my life…
I’d rather not pick January one
with sweets around
to swear them off
with ten pounds
And well, about the smoking...
I’m not making THAT promise
I can’t keep
for more than a week
And God only knows
I could do without
all my damn swearing
You know it is hard
to give up drinking
when you go out tipsy
and come home sober
just a few times a year
The list goes on and on
of what I won't resolve
to do or give up
without failure's stress
The only resolution
I've ever kept
with success
Is to never make
one

You made me chuckle...and I needed that.
This is such a great list of what to not
to do...and do...

Good job, miss!

At some point in time you begin to learn how not to set yourself up for failure LOL!

I love this. Although I have quit smoking, it wasn't because of any resolution. Dittos for quitting drinking except for one (1) glass 10.5 oz. about an hour before bedtime. Off and on with the diet. Never did make a resolution to quit swearing. Why should I? Swearing, at times, conveys what is needed to be said like no other way. Anyway, I enjoyed the poem and concur one hundred percent.

To mimic is a form of praise unless
you have no thoughts of your own

A very clever and enjoyable read. Happy New Year and I raise a toast to your non-resolution resolution. Peace.

Nice one...
