Planning

My spouse is planning the end of his days,
a funeral listing of pallbearers, prepping
files and piles of paperwork covering
specific concerns, and on to how his obit
should read…

Now, I think, this is only being responsible.

Then, I am told where to look,
what to search for, and who to call if I have questions.

        I tell him, he’s not dying…

Please, he says, don’t disregard –

and then continues that
Elvis’s Trilogy should be played

and I repeat…by varying words

        that’s a long way off…

he continues…it will be a military service
at the gravesite…the list goes on.

Then he begins his dictate on what my life
[not should but] will encompass
following his demise; how I will live it,
as if he has peered into a crystal ball,

and he tells me that there will be suitors,
that I will marry again for they will all know
…a good thing.

It is at this point
that I quietly

hold my tongue.

Why argue with a ghost?

Sissie....A sigh here and a hug...I feel like I was there with you, nodding when you say, why argue with a ghost.

Why argue indeed? As we all know, ghostisees (harhar) are always right.

Thanks, everyone...but just to advise, he's a stubborn ol' German...and he's probably going to stick around a long, long time!

But it does get to be a bit frustrating, knowing he's attempting to micromanage my life from beyond the pall! LOL...

Reminds me so much of an old joke....

Woman asks her husband if he would remarry if she dies. He responded, "Well, honey, if I were still young I wouldn't want to go through the rest of my life alone so I probably would."

"But", she asked, would you let her drive my car?"

"Well, baby, if the car were just sitting there not being used and we needed it, yes, I suppose I would."

"But, honey", she persisted, "would you let her wear my jewelry??"

"Well, love of my life, it wouldn't make any sense to leave such beautiful jewelry hidden in a closet drawer, so I probably would let her wear it."

"But, sweetheart", she finally said, "would you let her use my golf clubs?????"

"Oh, no, lambchop!!", he replied. "She's left-handed!!!"

I think this is a good thing, and it's kind of cute.
The stubborn german and elvis trilogy are all a part of who the man is.

I consider you to be a very lucky lady.

You know Karilea, I agree with Blues, because I am doing the same thing. After seeing the "mess" my nephews have gone through the last year and a half after my sister and her husband have now passed on, I don't want that to be what I leave behind.

It is amazing to think for instance that for the last 40 years I have done all the bill paying and paperwork for everything and he doesn't even know how to use a computer, let alone his cell phone most days.  It's sort of the reverse of how my mother had to handle her life after my father's death.

I think that you feel some sort of relief and less pressure if you know that everything is "in order" and then you can continue to live more comfortably for the rest of your life. At least that is how I am feeling most recently and why I haven't been on here that much of late.

He he Karilea
This definitely made me smile. Maybe it shouldn't have but I just loved the ending.

Military and Elvis, well, that sounds like GI Blues to me.
I really liked that album.

Considering the fact you're going to be a widow then you'll have to count the cost of everything with only one income.

There's ways you can be frugal.
Ad for the obit
Spouse (his name) died, car for sale.

Just a suggestion.

heh heh heh...Good thoughts, Eric! Only, I'm keeping the '73 Corvette!

It goes well with my gray hair!

Bluesy, Maureen...everyone should plan for their end of times...I think that's a good thing. Only, once it's done? Quit talking about it, and LIVE life!

Right?
