reminiscent of a Jewish mother hovering
more kosher than a Jerusalem rabbi
jagged, dangerous as a drunken circumcision knife
more eloquent than the songs of Solomon
holy place . . . consecrated spot
Moses received Yahweh's laws

bickering Jew
descent did brew

snapping dogs and hungry snakes threatened
the soul consumed by a special flame
descendant of Hebrew slave
traditional founder of Judaism
eyes fixed on the promised land
like a ghost come to deliver his children

fulfilling oath
tribe fell to sloth

leave Egypt
take your Jewish brethren
walk to the corner of the world
called The Promised Land
Moses
suck it up, lead My children out of bondage

you have to go
it will be slow

murmuring came from within
cursing their God
drunk with sun and sand
he trekked behind camels across arid desert
wrestled with his peoples' demons
stayed their fog of uncertainty

you must believe
we will achieve

Moses, the man, stopped clouds of doubt from fomenting
fought back pessimism
one lone man with faith
of that mustard seed
going to set foot on the Promised Land
ordained

God will love you
when heart is true

they got tired of
dust and disease the never-ending trek
nobody told them anything divine
just Moses
hard-headed, plodding Moses
smiling, because he was to set foot on Promised Land

oh, what a joy
find his place, oy

a mighty leader
kept the Israelites on the straight and narrow
ah, maybe he was in a hurry
maybe he forgot to sanctify children of Israel
God is wrathful let Moses see the Promised Land
then to wander in the wilderness unfulfilled

nomadic drab
died in Moab

. . . and the raven said, )!(%!~@~#&$ . . .

This is not your usual fare...so it took me a couple of reads to get a feel for it. Were you intending it to be a bit on the dry humor side of Biblical history? The more I read it the better I liked it.

Whatever. Just ruminating on what happened to Moses as he lead his people toward the Promised Land. Seems to not be too popular. I do different things in regards to poetry, Lori. I don't like to get locked into one format. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose.

To mimic is a form of praise unless
you have no thoughts of your own

Yes he did, Rex. He also taught us there is a penalty to pay if you don't do what is expected of you. In his case he never got to set foot in The Promised Land.
