If promise understood the spoken word
Would it ignore
the roar of devotion's cheers
or disregard the sight of despondent tears
Better ...
it bond the hearts
than falsify a token pledge
~
Its grasp
might quell an offensive urge
and thus
defend the heart
from tormentor's dirge
chastising ...
the inconsiderate tongue that swells them
~
Keywords mistyped in letters dear
where finger strokes
with angry thoughts combine
Till sadly ...
one flawed phrase may inclement
and forever storm the mind
~
If promise could interlace with beating hearts
Perhaps tears
could find defense from poison darts

You're HOME!

And when I saw your name in a response, I
hoped and hoped and hoped that I would also
see a poem...

A belated Merry Christmas, my friend...

I don't know what inspired this poem,
but I do understand about promises,
keyboards, and all.

Merry Christmas, Rex!

Merry Christmas to you too Karilea ... I have started to write a little again this past while and I hope to be back to stay.

Mostly reading and commenting for the time being ... but I do have a few pieces I've not posted yet

Ah yes. The false pledges, words mis(?)typed in anger and trying to defend the slings and arrows (sorry William) with tears.

Liked the seething exploration of this one.

Very nicely done indeed.
Promises wow they get thrown around like a frisbee these days.
Good questions and an enjoyable read, thought provoking to say the least.

I PROMISE I'll read your words again

Take care

Eric

May I say that this is a high quality poem? Depth of thought most powerfully expressed indeed.

The end of the year is a good moment to reflect upon the value of promises.

Love,
Margherita

It has always been set in my mind, that a broken  promise is a lie. Liked your poem. Am glad to see you writting again.  latearrival

I'm so liking this.  Every word kept hitting home no matter how much I tried dodging them.

Great writing, Mr. McCoy~

Lori ... the number of people who could dodge these lines would be very few ... just some Used Car Salesmen and Politicians I assume.

thanks for reading
