tired of being who I was
weary of the shame in the night
drained of the worthlessness of the fight
of things that go bump
inside my head
pointlessly yearning
for something to hang onto
but hungering for more, more
even more of the same nothing I was used to
wherever I hung my hat
of meaningless existence
in my very own
garden of Gethsemane
filled with trees loaded with crimes of passion
king-sized bed
full of
fanged Medusa-saturated snakes
jumped right in not afraid
better than being lonesome
not
didn't understand
wanting a lover didn't have to mean
take any lover
didn't matter
how many lovers did it take
to destroy me
I was game
even though my wretchedness
ran the shallow ones away
the ones who were left
found out my secret method
of turning happiness
into darkness

until there was you
YOU
you caused my directionless passion
to throb with unceasing care
trying, trying, trying
to give these strange feelings
a label
something to call it
something to put in a box
and look at from time to time
you were the encyclopedia of
love's rocky road
it was as if you knew
what was embedded within the soul

that was another thing
that soul thing
before I was a vacant lot
strewn with with multifaceted weeds and destruction
you began to maintain that vacant lot
you brought consciousness into play
you set it beside the friendly smile
never had one of those before
you pruned all the weeds
leaving the flowers which had been choked out
you then erected a tall tower of strength
atop my useless despair and rot
you gave me so much
but then
you had so much to give

Hey Jerry
I love the lead into the finale of this . Passion right out of a lonely heart warmed up in a blanket of fulfilled needs.

Sometimes we need some firm emotional direction to find success in love. Shown the way so to say....

Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Eric

As a person who dated my share of Medusa-saturated snakes, I congratulate you for finding your lot in life. (does she have a sister?)

Haha!! I live it, DS. Yes indeed. But you know what "they" say, and "they" much know a lot because "they" keep saying things. In this instance, "they" say tomorrow never comes. Hope "they" are wrong for your sake.

Our emotional direction is in need of direction at times, and I quite agree with that, Eric. Thanks for being here.

Ah, no sisters, I am sorry to say, Balladeer, but maybe some sisters-in-training.

Thank you, sasanka7, I appreciate you being here.

Hi Jerry...My thought is that all things come from you...and that no matter how it seems and how much you want to thank or blame...you alone are the one that puts the love within the frame.  You wrote the happy ending in this poem and I enjoyed reading it.  (steps down from soapbox)

Ahh, when the soul is involved, it's the real thing, isn't it?!

Beautiful and passionate song of love and gratitude for the special one in your life.

Love,
Margherita

Martie and Margherita, I am sorry for just now getting to your comments. I don't know what happened, I usually either check back or my email alerts me when I have a comment, but this one slid through somehow and I didn't pick up on it.

Martie, of course you are correct, each of us have to deal with things on an individual basis and not look for others to do it for us. And yes, I wrote a happy ending. I don't always do that, but this time it had to be.

Thank you, Margherita for understanding the poem, I so appreciate your kind words.
