Listening to every heart

My Love, My Lexis

Somehow, when you found time
to leave me, there and then, when first
you took my heart, then mind ~
when my tongue fell far too quiet,
and my fingers grew too weak,
when you were some grand finesse,
oh surely,
quite some temperament
has now gone sorely weak,

I became and am now just a body,
worn once or twice so close,
but for some time way too few,
now looking for a grave,
as gravity seems bent to bend this soul;
and though inspiration is some sprite,
(did you leave her here beside me,
simply to deride me?)
for she rounds my bedside late at night, and
visits me in dreams so far gone
in brilliant lights that were yes, at
times some gulf-stream blue,
while heaven knows, yes,
surely heaven knows,
I still search for you.

MIA, old soldiers would say, but no,
your soul is somewhere near;
though tongue tied, I breathe a breath,
for it is       all       that’s left
so you must not be gone, no, not just yet.

Everyone needs something
to blame their loss upon,
and I wonder, did I blunder? or
did you allow just, that your
gracious stream pass on?

Did you take your most awesome gift
of wit and clarity
to another form, another norm,
another lonesome charity?

Did I not thank you
every day
for the love you left behind?
Did I forget
or make you fret,
that I sought more of such a find?

Or was it you that had found me,
to stay, to rest awhile; and then I moved
my pen to norm, to form a cursive link,
a line.

Did someone curse you
when I did not look, and mayhap you heard
terms too clear?  Did someone take
this endearment of you, and make them
cloudy with fear?

Or was it that you felt the strain, the need
to write of you
each rain?
And yet you knew I hardly ever cried…

Did you walk away
those lonesome months ago
that a challenge might be met?
Did you realize, my Lexis, dear,
that I harbor           no regret?

You have taken to taunting me
with your wondrous dreams,
I know they must be all of yours,
for shallow were my nightly rests,
and now I share obscure.

Did you drown in those oceans too
so greenly blue, as water claimed my ankles?
Did you cry in words unclaimed
or trim some light, unshackled?

Is it thus that the waves turn hue?

And have you doubted my love
my every thought of you,
when my every word is piqued?
No, no, that couldn’t be,
for ‘tis you that I still seek…

I know that you do listen naught
to words that would proclaim
an            angel              that       stood beside a ghost
one who may not yet claim
a wayward woman with her pen, but know,
yes, know,

I loved you then, and darling
Lexis, I still do.

Dream me, once again.

Getting ready for bed. A glass of vino in me. I stopped long enough to read one more poem, because I saw who had written it. But of course this isn't just one more poem. No indeed, this is soulful declarations of love denied, and that always grabs me by the throat. The first person lament was perfect in every instance. I especially liked the way you put distance between certain words, as if trying to explain the unexplainable. You succeeded. THIS poem touched me where it was supposed to touch me. Great writing. If personal I know the words came straight from the love that is left. Goodnight . . .

. . . and the Raven said, %!~#&(&#!$!

Girlfriend, this is sooo good in a really painful way.  It does more than just touch. Lori

Sissie...Sometimes those that walk away leave a clearer impression on the ground of our heart, than those that stay.  That is all I can think to say to let you know how much this touched me.

JP, I often take time just before bed to peek into PiP as well. You never know what treasures might be around to rest upon...thank you.

LGR...thank you sooo much!

Martie Sis...even when the spirits walk away, they never stay away too long. Sometimes they make us go into review mode...to see what can be made better after time.

Jo...I think you probably read this just right. Especially if you believe your muse is real.
