(after reading Christ's parable of the seeds, I wrote the following):

God's Miracle

A seed is planted under dampened sod;
A gardener tends it well with rake and hoe;
Yet only by the grace & love of God
Will that one seed push through the earth and grow

Still other seeds are planted in the earth
by farmers who must carefully reap & sow;
But only by God's Will--not by mans worth--
Will those seeds finally pierce the earth and grow

Yes, man may make life easy for those seeds;
Machines can plow the fertile ground, you know.
Can even ease the soil and pluck out weeds--
Yet by themselves they can't make one seed grow.

For seeds will grow despite mans toil or pain--
Despite machines--without the rake and hoe;
Cause God Himself has placed within each grain
The power and the need for it to grow.

A farmer with self-pride now "reaps the fruits"
But will this farmer ever really know
That God Himself was hiding at his roots
To make each seed unfurl itself and grow.

Though modern tractors plow the fertile ground
Until the fields do rich in harvest show
I'm sure that in the end it will be found:
The Lord did make the harvest rise and grow!

Welcome!  I've read this parable many times.  Always amazing, the Divine Mind.    Humility duly noted!...and I think we are like the seeds, planted and grown with such potential.  Very thoughtful take on the parable and well penned!  ~KL

Klassy, Prasad, Amaryllis:
Thank you so much for you warm welcome and wonderful commentary. I wrote this a long time ago (50 years ago..I'm 65 now) but kept it in a drawer--hoping maybe to share it someday with someone. And along came the internet and poetry forums...WOW!

Blessings to all,

Al

Welcome to Pip, dear Al!

Considering also that you wrote this beautiful poem when you were only 15, makes it even more precious.

I agree, God IS and MANIFESTS in all things.

Love,
Margherita

Margherita, Mikeandrew:

Thanks so much for your commentary.
Yes, I wrote poetry at an early age..then took a 40 year hiatus in order to persue other things..but the muse kept pestering me until I finally blurted out "all right!..i'll penn some more poems!"
No escape when the muse comes a-calling!
