just down from the looking tree there
over across from whisper place lane
where the blond girls would dance their sins
and leave their perfumed kiss brims behind
on leaves and limbs and eyes sometimes

there stands the lean-to shanty of stone
carved by the englishman from willows' ferry
with his love hammer and chisels and poems
he made love to the granite places til dawn
and the strangers wives too on some sundays

when they were done at being their proper
while serving blessings to their hollow gods
and went for walks to pick the fresh berries
and loving poetry from the man fruit tree
with stormy eyes and hard and handsome hands

lady ruth of densmore still visits on holidays
and traces marks on the oak by the doorway
with the fingertips of her belly well memory
when butterflies would dance even in winter
and thanksgiving was the dreams she kept after

when the royal bed was crowded with too often lonely

Lord Byron is a popular topic for poems.  As I read that the royal bed was crowded with too often lonely, this poem is definitely by the dark master.  For a different take on the subject, there is a poem by Yuka, who has a more sympathetic understanding of the man.  Dark is good.  Light is good.

Can't compete. Outclassed at every turn. Superior work. Always. I bow to you. (At least you aren't a Saudi Prince) I don't think. Are you?
