Memory lane beckons all who believe
second looks bring clarity
but all I can see is someone not "me"
who enacted a stranger's script.

I know the writer was not well informed
of inbred character traits
that lay in wait for love's debut
on the stage of everyday life.

It happened, of course, the curtain rose
but I focus my gaze backstage
to witness all the palaver
that always precedes a play.

And there lies the real tragedy,
comedy if you will,
but from hair to nails to dress-up
it all makes sense in the end.

Without the preceding I'd be no star
bowing to all the applause
and it doesn't matter, you know, you know,
if the audience numbers one.

I bow to me!

Astounding concept, Helen, and carried out brilliantly. The almost insanity of the behind the play is a wonderful metaphor for the mindgames of star-crossed lovers, or wanna be lovers. I really like this. I am adding this to my library. You have the honor(?) of being the first and only one so far.

. . . and the Raven said, %!~#&(&#!$!

Thank you all so much - and JerryPat, it is most decidedly an honour.  How could it not be?
