Damn the beast that came to take my boy
I never saw it stride
Never heard the jiggle of the latch
But ever was it deep inside
His younger years, I always seemed to sense
Those dangers lurking low
And even when I failed to fend
I caught at least the glancing blow
But damn that beast that slipped me past
Sheltered by the one I love
Would give my very life for his
I would! I would! I would!
Now the cruelest twist of fate
In my sweet boy’s body reigns
A vicious rage against his loveliness
Coursing through his tender veins
An evil so insidious
An evil without equal kind
Till up his precious cord of life
It filled a beautiful mind
Sweet poison now his only hope
Sweet poison's work begun
I pray you take the beast with you
Before you take my son

Abduction? Rape? Murder? More likely drugs is the beast here. No matter, it has taken the son. Much passion here.

Robert, this is wrenching.
If truth is in the writing
you are in my prayers.

This is truly sad and as a parent myself I can understand. We protect and nurture for so long and then finally have to know that so many things aren't in our control.  I guess the only thing that is in our control is ... love and we can all do that no matter the circumstances.  My best to you and yours.

Oh, heart-rending... I know this pain, as a parent-  no, our boy did not have cancer, but many surgeries, and I know what it is to be physically sick with worry, to be wrung with anger and panic over the helplessness at their pain, their suffering, and how we would gladly take their place if only we could.   My thoughts and heart and prayers are with you and your dear lil guy.
.
Best~

None seek brutal intoxication but for lack of hope, which is so often merely lack of information. Best wishes.
