The Beast

From the shadows of my life
Down the steps in the darkness,
In the basement where I
Hide the things that I
Won’t look at or let others see.
It waits.

It’s overgrown claws
Click on the floor of my soul.
It’s yellow eyes blink
And watch, never sleeping.

There behind the smile that
I use to fool people,
Hiding in the polite manners
And proper attire,

Is the beast.

It’s constant low growl
Never letting up,
Forever echoing in my
Tortured mind.

There in the basement
It paces, It howls
It rages

Alone at night
Sitting in front of my blank television,
I rock back and forth
and shudder.

Jekle and Hyde... keep that thing/think locked away. A quality read here. Thanks for sharing.

Many beasts at my basement as well, just remind me that I am not the only one with them. Fine writing this.

Our basements where we hide things come in many different forms as there are people. But we all have them. Uh, with the possible exception of Amy Winehouse. I do believe her basement has a swing door.

Ah, The Beast. I've often wondered what damage releasing it would do, Although I don't have the uh... "guts" to do so. Enjoyed this.

Thank you all for your kind words. Ah yes Miss Winehouse....A feline beast for sure.
