Listening to every heart

How to Know a Poet

I am becoming more adept, in often strange-some ways,
In recognizing those who feel
Lexis coloring days, and if I watch some eyes so bright,
The gleam in stream of dreams, then a poet is about to meet
Another, with their ways.

Watch the hands of flitter fly, talking in the air,
Or watch as eyes find a gaze
On a horizon that is not there…

Or watch some apple dumpling cheeks
Shine bright to catch sun’s rays,
Knowing that the freckles there
Are kisses from other days…and then,

And then…

Listen to a voice so fine, it shimmers
In your soul; and find the touch of hands so warm,
A pen is held in glow…

Then know before you a poet stands,
And if you are a poet, too?
A hug is the requisite form of talk,
When one and one braid two…

And then? The air is round with solemn calm,
A peace fills full all time, as minds seem to meld
The storms, and quiet stills all space,
When eyes speak volumes, when shoulders share
The weight of all that is…

And sisters of poems then plait silence,
To be just what they are, bound by knowledge
Of their lives, as touched by the highest stars…

Poet, you have touched my heart, and
I hope,
That I have touched yours, too,
In ways that know no words…for
Forever special is held in this heart…
Martie, poetess,
For all I’ve heard with my soul, is true.

Although this seems personal, it is personal with myself also, because as I read the words I see more than I did before. As I have mentioned before your poetry has a consistent flow to it which the reader (me) feels immediately that the words are meant for him. that they are meant for others is beside the point.

That is simply a beautiful write!

Loved every word and I have to agree Martie is something special just as you are.
Such talent and heart you both have shared with others here and I for one have appreciated it.

Such close friendship is like inside of the oyster that develops a pearl.

Take care
